Nineteen eighty-two was a very good year for genre films. So good that the famed Alamo Drafthouse is celebrating it this season with a film series called Summer of ’82, which features such titles as The Thing, Poltergeist, The Road Warrior, Tron, Conan the Barbarian and E.T. Aside from The Thing and Poltergeist, other horror faves turning 30 this year include Amityville II: The Possession, Basket Case, Creepshow, Evilspeak (yes, I’m cuckoo for this Clint Howard Cocoa Puff) and The Slumber Party Massacre. Though actually made in ’81 and dropped in domestic theates in ’83, The Entity was released internationally that year, so we can add it to the list, as well.
