Growing up in a small town in corn country, Indiana, I indulged in the escape of horror films, and eventually found myself drawn to more artistic foreign horror from the likes of Italians Dario Argento, Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci and Michele Soavi. Then, one day, a friend introduced me to Jean Rollin’s 1979 lesbian vampire movie Fascination and I was hooked on the French filmmaker.
Rollin, who died December 15, 2010, at age 73, was inspired by the serials he watched as a boy, and themes of childhood innocence are persistent in his work. His films involve adventures, fantasy, castles and gothic horror. And of course the naked…
